Strongroom privacy policy

Last updated 5 November 2026.

Strongroom is a password manager extension for Google Chrome. I am Haroon Mukhtar, an individual developer based in Islamabad, Pakistan, and I make it. This page explains what the extension does with your data. The extension itself is described on the Strongroom page.

The short version

Strongroom keeps your logins on your computer. The extension makes no network requests, so I receive nothing from it: no logins, no browsing history, no usage statistics and no crash reports. I do not sell your data or share it with anyone.

What Strongroom stores and where

What Strongroom reads in your browser

What Strongroom does not do

Why each permission is needed

Encryption

Logins are encrypted with AES-256-GCM. The key is derived from your master password with Argon2id. Without your master password or your recovery key, the vault cannot be opened, by anyone.

If you lose your master password

At setup Strongroom shows a recovery key once. With the recovery key you can set a new master password. If you lose both, your logins cannot be recovered by you or by me, because I have no copy.

Deleting your data

Delete a login in Strongroom to remove it from your vault. Removing the extension from Chrome removes everything it stored in your profile. Strongroom has no export feature yet, so removing it deletes your logins for good. Copy what you still need first.

Chrome Web Store user data policy

Strongroom's use of data follows the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Changes

If a later version sends data off your computer, for example to sync your vault between devices, I will update this page before that version is released and describe the change in the extension's release notes. The date at the top shows when this page last changed.
